Director of Bands: Leah Shanley
Marching Band's main focus is on-field performances at football games and competitions that take place throughout the fall semester. We also play as a pep band for home Men's Basketball games in the Winter. We love to perform at community events such as grand openings, retirement ceremonies, and parades.
At home football games, the band typcially performs their annual show at halftime. During the games (home and away) the band plays music in the stands to keep the crowd going. Clapping along and dancing with the band helps, too!
Each week of Marching Band Season, an emailed itinerary for that Friday and/or Saturday will include times for reporting to school, practicing, breaks, travel, and others. The Saturday itineraries will include Liberty's rough performance time for that week's competition. Our band could be scheduled to perform at 10 am or at 10 pm—each competition is different. Sometimes we won’t know our time slot until late the night before, but they are typically published by Wednesday of that week. However, the time slot we are given in advance is only an estimate so plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before our time slot to allow for parking, purchasing tickets, finding seats, etc.
What's expected of parents:
We would love to have you involved this year. We need help each week at football games and competitions. As our band continues to succeed, we continue to grow exponentially so we will need more and more help. Marching band competitions are timed so we have to have ALL our equipment and instruments on and off the field quickly. There are so many moving parts on competition day, we need parents to help that all happen. We also need help supervising our roughly 80 teenagers during games and compeitions and on the buses. We also typically run a few fundraisers, run concessions for winter athletics in the main gym, build props, and seek out comminity sponsers. All the information you could need will be available at each monthly General Booster meeting on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30. We'd love to see you there. It's a lot of work, but also so much fun to see it all from a different perspective.
